Overview
Overview
An experienced and knowledgeable counselor in the realm of Creditors’ Rights, Mehmet has represented both lenders and borrowers in all aspects of contested and non-contested Foreclosure actions and related Real Estate litigation throughout New York State. While Mehmet regularly manages a caseload of residential Foreclosure actions throughout the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island, his work also heavily includes defending property owners and Mortgage servicers against Municipal Town & City Code Violations, advocating for Petitioning Lienholders in Surrogate’s Court cases, representing Landlords in Housing Court disputes, handling Third Party closings, and other Real Estate matters.
Mehmet’s practice is strongly focused on prosecuting Judicial Foreclosures through all stages of litigation from default through the post-auction REO phase. Mandatory settlement conferences, oral arguments, and Bad Faith hearings are just some of the many appearances routinely handled by Mehmet. Although his practice primarily deals with Mortgage Foreclosure, Mehmet’s work has also encompassed instituting Title Curative actions to obtain Declaratory Judgments, Strict Foreclosures to wipe out the interests of Subordinate Lienholders, and cases on behalf of Junior Lienholders to obtain Surplus Monies. Having joined FSKS’s Pennsylvania Creditors Rights practice group in 2021, Mehmet now also handles judicial foreclosures from inception through disposition throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Before joining the firm, Mehmet gained experience in his primary practice area at a boutique Nassau County law firm where he defended homeowners and debtors in Foreclosure proceedings, which included Eviction appearances and filings for Bankruptcy protection. Mehmet also has a background in Mediation, having acted as a Supervising Attorney at a Long Island based corporation where he helped manage a multi-billion dollar claim facility, oversaw a team of attorneys, and consulted on various corporate matters with company directors.
Prior to his admission to the bar, Mehmet worked as a Court Agent for one of the largest New York City residential Real Estate management companies where he gained experience in Housing and Administrative Law; handling a substantial caseload of Eviction, Abatement, Non-Payment, Holdover, and other Landlord-Tenant matters, as well as appearing on hearings before the New York City Department of Health and Environmental Control Board. While in law school, Mehmet clerked at a boutique law firm in lower Manhattan concentrated in Mass Tort litigation and worked alongside Deputy Attorney Generals for the State of New Jersey at the Department of Children and Families.
As a lifelong resident of the greater New York City metropolitan area, Mehmet grew up in North Jersey, graduated with a triple major from Rutgers University in 2005, and obtained a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in 2010. Mehmet’s academic achievements include induction to the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society and acceptance to the National Dean’s List. Mehmet is fluent in Turkish and enjoys spending time with his family and traveling to his ancestral homeland of Turkey when possible.
