Overview

Overview

Suneeta Thadani Dewan, Esq. is the Founder and Attorney at Law at Dewan & Associates, PLLC, a successful boutique immigration practice, where she practices corporate and family immigration law. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the American Association of University Women, where she served as the Legal Advocacy Chair for the Northwest Bergen Board during the late 90s.

Located in The Bar Building in Midtown Manhattan, Dewan & Associates PLLC built its reputation on providing the highest quality of legal representation, while remaining cost-effective and delivering value to her clients. Her firm serviced the immigration needs of numerous American and multinational corporations in various industries—from multinational IT corporations, pharmaceutical manufacturers, financial brokerage companies, jewelry manufacturers, technology, healthcare, fashion and garments, and the arts to name a few—and to the diplomatic community at the United Nations, where Suneeta is frequently invited to give seminars and presentations on immigration matters. She has also worked with hedge funds and private equity funds. Other areas of her immigration expertise include assisting individuals with extraordinary abilities, such as artists, musicians, scientists, etc., to obtain green cards. Investor visas, family-based green cards, and citizenship also run the gamut of Suneeta’s expertise. Her clientele spans a list of over a hundred countries.

Suneeta has maintained a hands-on approach with all her clients, which continues to enable her to understand their needs and to formulate strategies that address those needs on a case-by-case basis. Suneeta’s well-reasoned and creative responses to audits and requests for evidence have helped achieve a high rate of success in the final outcome of these cases, which in turn have allowed her clients to grow their skilled workforce and remain competitive.

A committed activist, Suneeta is also involved in supporting numerous social causes protecting the rights of women, children, and immigrants. Suneeta runs legal clinics providing pro bono counsel to abused women on immigration matters, filing self-petitions under the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA). She is also involved with the Hindu Samaj Temple and Cultural Center, where she provides pro bono immigration services. For her tireless work in the community, she recently received a certificate of commendation for outstanding community service from the County Executives of Bergen County, NJ.

Suneeta is currently on the advisory board of Children’s Hope India, an organization that addresses the needs that prevent children from accessing education and achieving their dreams. Suneeta serves on the advisory board of Palms for Life, a NY-based organization that supports the creation of infrastructure that provides access to education, food, water, and sanitation for vulnerable communities throughout Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Suneeta is also on the advisory boards of the Indian American Arts Council (IAAC) and Manavi, an organization dedicated to ending all forms of violence against South Asian women. She is on the board of directors of Friends of Mewar, a non-profit organization founded by the daughter of the current custodian of the House of Mewar. Friends of Mewar works for the promotion of women’s empowerment and education and preventive healthcare.

Suneeta has always been a successful business owner, and this strong foundational business experience, which included working in real estate and assisting with her family’s maritime consulting business, has guided the remarkable trajectory and diversification of her legal practice. Her confluence of business, legal, and international expertise also gives Suneeta a deep understanding of the needs of newly established organizations and those continually restructuring to meet the demands of the global workplace. This has enabled her to offer advice that helps clients make wise staffing and structuring decisions.

Suneeta was born in India, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from St. Francis College and her master’s degree in Economics from Osmania University in Hyderabad. In 1978, she moved to the United States. She is a graduate from Seton Hall University, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree. She currently lives in the beautiful state of New Jersey, a place that she and her family have called home for over 45 years.
